Underwater Photographer Course


Would you like to become an Underwater Photographer? Take our 3.5-day Underwater Photographer Course and gain an excellent grounding in underwater photography with plenty of useful knowledge & techniques.

The Liquid Lense Underwater Photographer Course is a 3.5-day underwater digital photography course covering all the skills and training you need to take fantastic underwater photos. This course is designed for divers thinking about taking up underwater photography as a serious hobby.

Day 1

3 hrs (flexible)

Learn about the camera you’ll be using during the course. We’ll introduce underwater photography fundementals, including light, colour, composition, angles and positioning. Familiarise yourself with the camera functions and location of controls. Cover the set-up and care of underwater camera housings and prepare for the next day out on the dive boat.

Day 2

08:00 – 15:30
(Boat)
Your Instructor will brief and remind you how to check and use your underwater camera and housing. You’ll be working in Programme Mode and evaluating white balance, and will have set exercises and subjects to try and capture. We’ll review your photos and you’ll receive tips and feedback to help make the most of your camera on the next day’s diving.

Day 3

08:00 – 15:30
(Boat)
Make a further 2 dives out on the dive boat with your Liquid Lense Instructor. We’ll introduce further exercises, shot types & techniques to take your photography skills to the next level using Manual Mode. At the end of the day, we’ll provide more feedback on your photos.

 

 

 

Day 4

3-4 hrs (flexible)

Select a few of your images and spend time perfecting them using computer editing software. Learn techniques to correct many common underwater photography problems from basic cropping and contrast correction, to colour enhancement and backscatter removal.Leave with a CD containing all your images to take home and enjoy.

Courses start every day. You can book now, or come in to see see us while you’re on holiday in Ko Lanta. We offer free transfers to and from your resort in Ko Lanta.

What will I learn in the Liquid Lense Underwater Photographer Course?

The 3.5 day course is split into camera equipment training, 4 open water dives and an introduction to editing techniques:

 

During the session in the Liquid Lense edit suite, you’ll learn about photographic composition, techniques, light and colour and how to utilize these to make your photos stand out! You’ll discuss aperture, shutter speed, ISO and manual settings.

You’ll become familiar with the underwater camera you will be using, and discuss which settings and controls to use. We’ll also run through proper care and set-up of the underwater housing

During the days out on the boat you’ll complete 2 dives per day accompanied by one of our Liquid Lense experts.

You’ll check the housing prior to diving, review your goals for the day, and be set a series of shot types, including sunburst, silhouette, fast moving subjects, flash, black background, low light, macro, divers with marine life and portraits. You’ll move from Program to Manual settings, adjust your ISO and learn to manually evaluate white balance. You’ll experiment with angles and positions.

We’ll review your photos and progress in more depth and provide constructive feedback. Select a few of your favourite images and spend some time perfecting them using computer editing software (Lightroom/Photoshop). Learn techniques to correct many common underwater photography problems from basic cropping and contrast correction, to colour enhancement and backscatter removal. Leave with a CD containing all your images, plus the edited versions, to take home and enjoy.
