Scubafish is a Go ECO operator, a Greenfins member, and support eco-friendly diving and responsible tourism. We are also proud winners of the 2010 Project AWARE Conservation Award, the 2007 Project AWARE Environmental Achievement Award and the EU Responsible Tourism Award (one of only 9 Dive Centres in Thailand recognised as meeting European Standards for Sustainable Tourism Management in Thailand).
Project AWARE Awards
PADI and the Project AWARE Foundation recognise the achievements of, and honors dive operators around the world who display an exceptional commitment and excellence in their efforts to protect underwater environments within business operations and their community. Project AWARE Foundation Chairman, Dr. Drew Richardson recognizes “The Environment Achievement Award is about rewarding vision, excellence and pursuit of conservation. More importantly, this award ensures the enjoyment of underwater environments for future generations.”
Our Go ECO status was awarded in recognition of the environmentally friendly dive practices we follow and promote. The primary objective of Go ECO is for dive centers to minimise their impact on the aquatic ecosystem whilst contributing to environmental, economic and cultural conservation. Dive centres are required to meet best practice environmental guidelines and are committed to providing dive experiences that enhance visitor awareness, appreciation and understanding of the local aquatic environment consistent with local resource conservation laws and conservation activities.
100% Project AWARE
Scubafish proudly became the first dive center in Thailand to automatically issue the Project Aware card for every dive certification that we process. Scubafish certify hundreds of scuba divers each year, so our involvement in the 100% Aware program represents a substantial investment in the work being done by Project AWARE in protecting the ocean planet. 100% of students receive the latest Project AWARE certification card (rather than the standard issue PADI card) and Scubafish donate AUD$10 to Project Aware projects on behalf of each any every one of our students.
If, like many travelers, you are concerned about your effect on the environment, the responsible way to travel is for you.
Greenfins is a joint initiative by the PMBC (Phuket Marine Biological Center), DMCR (Department of Marine and Coastal Resources) and is supported by UNEP (United Nations Environmental Programme) and The Reef World Foundation. Members share a dedication and common aim to protect Thailand’s reefs, raise awareness and teach ongoing coral monitoring. Members undergo annual assessments as to environmental practices (including dive briefings and dive practices), awareness and participation in coral reef restoration and monitoring, and adhere to a set code of conduct.
Scubafish are delighted to have been awarded the TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence every year since 2011. TripAdvisor awards this certificate to businesses who consistently receive excellent ratings, and great feedback from the people who matter the most, customers. Scubafish are proud to possess a top-ranking 5 rating on TripAdvisor, thanks to the reviews of our guests.
Lonely Planet Recommendation
Scubafish received a mention in the 2011-2012 edition of the Lonely Planet for Thailand. The positive review highlights our strong commitment to the highest level of service and personally tailored teaching methods, and supports our philosophy of making scuba diving easy, safe and fun for people of all ages: “The best dive operation on the island is Scubafish Ao Kantiang. Unlike some of the large and impersonal operators based in Ban Sala Dan, Scubafish run personal and personable programs tailored to one’s needs.”
By staying informed and making responsible travel choices you can minimize your effect as a tourist and help preserve natural environments, local economies and native cultures.
